Actress Tanya Roberts has died. She was best known for her role as a Bond girl in "A View to a Kill" and for her parts in "Charlie's Angels" and "That '70s Show." Her publicist and longtime friend Mike Pingel said her death was not due to COVID-19. "I'm devastated, I've been friends with Tanya for over 20 years." Pingel told CNN. Roberts collapsed on December 24th at her California home following a morning walk with her dogs. Roberts was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
According to CNN, R&B fans will have to wait until January 2021 for the Verzuz battle between Ashanti and Keyshia Cole. Songstress Ashanti announced on Saturday that she tested positive for COVID-19. She posted a video for her fans on Instagram. Ashanti said, "Never in a million years did I think I would get COVID." She wanted to still continue with the Verzuz from her house, but it was later reported that a tech challenge prevented the show from going live on Saturday. Verzuz shared on Instagram, "First time this has struck us so close to showtime...We apologize to our incredible audience! Get well soon, Ashanti." Verzuz is a series by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland. It launched as a way to engage music fans during quarantine with R&B and hip-hop battles, and has since become a cultural phenomenon on social media.
Van Halen lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen has died. He was 65 years old. CNN reports Eddie, whose full name was Edward Lodewijk Van Halen, died on Tuesday morning. Wolf Van Halen is the son of Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli. He tweeted that his father died 'after a long and arduous battle with cancer.' When Eddie and his brother, Alex Van Halen, met David Lee Roth, they formed the core of what to become their iconic rock band Van Halen. CNN reports that over four decades, Van Halen released more than a dozen albums together. Gene Simmons of KISS tweeted, 'Eddie was not only a Guitar God, but a genuinely beautiful soul.'
