Mexico City, Feb 12 (EFE).- "Las niñas bien" (The Good Girls), "Araña" and "Dolor y Gloria" (Pain and Glory) were among the films announced here Wednesday as contenders for nominations ahead of the 2020 Platino Xcaret Awards for Ibero-American Cinema.The task of presenting the 20 pre-candidates in each category was entrusted to Maite Perroni, Humberto Busto, Erik Hayser, Ana Serradilla, Dario Yazbek, Omar Chaparro - who will host the May 3 awards gala in the Teatro Gran Tlachco at Parque Xcaret on Mexico's Riviera Maya - and Natasha Dupeyron.Over the next month, the number of competitors will be whittled down to four finalists per category.For this seventh edition of the awards, hotel operator Xcaret has expanded its role from sponsor to co-organizer with the Spain-based Audiovisual Producers' Rights Management Entity (EGEDA).By country, Spain leads the 23-nation group with 67 pre-nominations, followed by Mexico with 53, while Argentina and Brazil each have 44. 'Desperado' actress Salma Hayek has praised her co-star Antonio Banderas for earning his first Oscar nomination for his role in 'Pain and Glory'.
Antonio Banderas was "surprised" to find himself nominated for his first ever Academy Award, after he was named one of the actors up for Actor in a Leading Role.
Al Pacino thanked Robert De Niro for getting him a role in 'The Irishman' as he picked up the Supporting Actor accolade at the Hollywood Film Awards, where the movie won three prizes.
