An analyst for Fundstrat say that US stocks are set to continue their bull run in 2021. On Thursday, Fundstrat's Tom Lee released its 2021 outlook. He outlined how the S&P 500 could surge 16% to 4,300 by the end of next year. Pent-up demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic leads to a stronger-than-expected recovery in GDP. A surge in demand from consumers could be sparked by a "pandemic finale." Business Insider says declining volatility and low interest rates are also supportive of the stock market.
JPMorgan released a note about the stock market in 2021. JPMorgan said the stock market is primed to surge in 2021. 2021 is when key risks like the US election and COVID-19 pandemic will begin to subside. "The equity market has one of the best setups for sustained gains in year," JPMorgan said. According to Business Insider, JPMorgan's note said they expected the S&P 500 to surge 26% to 4,500 by the end of 2021.
On Wednesday Credit Suisse Strategists revealed the key to investing in 2021 is preparing for a virus-free economy in 2022. In a note to clients, the team initiated a 2021 S&P 500 price target of 4,050. Business Insider reports that the target implies a 12% rally from Tuesday's closing level. Various coronavirus vaccines are vying for regulatory authorization. That led Credit Suisse to "de-emphasize the near-term" and focus on how the US economy would launch out of its virus slump. The team said "the virus will be a fading memory" in 2022 and the rotation to cyclical stocks will be "largely behind us."
On Tuesday, JPMorgan's Grace Peters told CNBC's "Squawk Box Europe" the S&P 500 could hit 3,750 by September 2021. Business Insider reports that would represent a 12% premium over Tuesday's closing price of 3,335.47. On the outlook for US stocks, she said, "We can see around a 10% upside over a 12-month view." Peters said investors should look at areas that have seen "structural growth" like construction, healthcare, and digital-transformation. Banks and financials are areas investors should avoid, according to Peters.
