Costco Updates In-Store Mask Policy

Business Insider reports that Costco is updating its mask policy. As of Monday, November 16, all shoppers, even those with medical conditions, will be required to wear a face mask or face shield in their stores. Costco initiated their mask policy in May, but made an exception for people who have medical conditions. Now, if you have a medical condition, and cannot wear a mask, you must wear a face shield in Costco. Costco CEO Craig Jelinek wrote a note to shoppers which said, "This updated policy may seem inconvenient to some, however we believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience." Costco's updated policy comes as COVID-19 cases recently surpassed 10 million in the U.S. Experts say that cases will continue to surge if the U.S. government does not reintroduce more stringent restrictions.

Costco is changing its mask policy to require all shoppers to cover their faces in stores. The updated policy includes people who have medical conditions that they state prevents them from wearing a mask. If a shopper has a condition that prevents them from wearing a mask, the new policy requires them to wear a face shield. "This updated policy may seem inconvenient to some, however, we believe the added safety is worth any inconvenience". Costco In May, the company mandated that all members and employees wear a face covering in order to slow the spread of the virus. According to Business Insider, the updated policy goes into effect Nov. 16.

First lady Melania Trump wanted to spread some seasonal cheer to sick children on Tuesday when she visited the Children's National Hospital. CNN reports she continued her annual tradition of visiting them, despite the coronavirus pandemic and record cases in Washington, DC. However, Mrs. Trump also broke the hospital's stated mask policy when she removed her mask to read a holiday book to children. While she arrived in the hospital's main atrium wearing a mask, she removed it when she took her seat in front of a tree. She did practice social distancing. However, the hospital's policy specifically requires all visitors to wear a mask.

Residents of the Chinese city of Hefei now have their very own traveling convenience store, selling everything from candy to veggies. Swedish start-up Wheelys developed the Moby Mart in cooperation with Hefei University and retail company Himalafy. Incredibly, the Moby Mart store operates 24/7 and all without any humans manning the store. Moby Mart offers basic groceries, such as milk, bread, fruit and coffee, which are only available to customers which have downloaded the Moby Mart app. Customers connect their card to the app so that Moby Mart technolgy can scan their purchase and charge them automatically. The app even allows customers to call the store to their location. Could this be the future of grocery shopping?
