Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick is battling Republican Brandon Martin in Arizona's 2nd Congressional District. The district is located in the Southeast of the state and encompasses about two-thirds of the city of Tucson. According to Business Insider, the district was previously represented by Sen.Marth McSally. The Center for Responsive Politics reported that Kirkpatrick has raised $1.7 million, and spent around $957,000 in her bid. Martin has raised approximately $336,000 and spent $315,000. The latest polling numbers show Kirkpatrick in the lead with 60.85% of the votes reported.
CNN projects that South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham has held on to his Senate seat. Graham will return to the Senate for a fourth term after defeating Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison. South Carolina is a conservative state that hasn't elected a Democrat to the Senate since 1998. CNN has also projected that President Donald Trump will win the state's 9 electoral votes. Graham serves as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Graham pushed through Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett's confirmation just days before the election. Graham had said previously that he would not appoint a Supreme Court judge during an election year.
Freshman GOP Rep. Peter Meijer voted to impeach Pres. Donald Trump last week. On Sunday, he talked about the fallout of that decision. Meijer said he might have ended his political future by voting to impeach President Trump. During an appearance on ABC's "This Week," he asked Meijer if voting for Trump potentially damaged his career beyond repair. "I may very well have," Meijer said. Meijer said voting to impeach Trump was necessary for the good of the country.
Former Rep. Mickey Edwards of Oklahoma said leaving the Republican Party because of Trump's control over the party. Edwards said the GOP has become a "cult" under President Donald Trump. He decried Republicans who backed Trump's effort to overturn President-elect Joe Biden's election win. "This has become a cult," he said.
Republican Rep. John Katko of New York made a statement Tuesday afternoon. He said he will vote to impeach President Donald Trump, says CNN. This makes Katko one of the first Republicans to sign on to the Democrats' efforts. Democrats aim to hold the President accountable for his role in the storming of the US Capitol. His words are cited as spurring his supporters on to commit violence resulting in 5 deaths. House Democrats are now moving rapidly toward impeaching Trump for a second time.
