At least three top Republicans plan to miss President Donald Trump's farewell ceremony. House Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Rep. Kevin McCarthy will attend church with Joe Biden. Vice President Mike Pence is unable to make it due to logistical issues, says Business Insider. Many people see this as the final snub to Trump from his once-closest allies. Others may also fail to attend but none so far have been confirmed outside of these three. Joe Biden is set to take office tomorrow and become the 46th President of the United States.
On Wednesday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said President Donald Trump was complicit in the Capitol siege. McCarthy also rejected conspiracy theories about antifa involvement. Business Insider reports that McCarthy further emphasized that President-elect Joe Biden was legitimately elected. The House GOP leader said he opposes impeachment but supports the resolution to censure Trump. "The president bears responsibility for Wednesday's attack by mob rioters."
Republican lawmakers are planning to delay certification of Joe Biden's 2020 election victory. Pres. Donald Trump and his allies have tried to overturn the election for weeks. They have pushed "baseless" claims of election fraud. GOP Sen. Ben Sasse is slamming plans to delay certifying the election. He took to Facebook to share his dismay. "If you make big claims, you had better have the evidence." Sasse said the president has no evidence to back up his claims of election fraud.
President-elect Joe Biden twisted his ankle Saturday while playing with Major--one of his two German Shepherd dogs. CNN reports Biden will be examined by an orthopedist Sunday afternoon 'out of an abundance of caution.' During the campaign, Biden released his medical history, which showed he was healthy and fit for the presidency. The former Vice President during the Obama administration celebrated his 78th birthday on November 20. Biden is set to be the oldest president in US history.
