Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda votes in the first round of the country's presidential election following a campaign dominated by defence issues as Vilnius seeks to strengthen its security in the face of neighbouring Russia. (CNN)US President Joe Biden will rightly spend his first days in office addressing the myriad domestic crises that he has inherited from his predecessor, Donald Trump. However, the transfer of power in the most powerful elected office in the world usually means a change in foreign policy, too. And if President Biden's inaugural address is anything to go by, the global focus for the next four years will chiefly be to restore the world's trust in America after the chaotic foreign policy of the one-term Trump administration.
President-elect Joe Biden arrived in Washington Tuesday to kick off his inaugural ceremonies. The normally celebratory time comes at a dark and solemn moment in American history. As the President-elect is preparing to take his oath of office, the US approaches 400,000 coronavirus deaths. Biden has said he was inspired to run for President after watching President Trump's dismissive handling of the deadly virus. Traditionally the outgoing President welcomes the incoming President and first lady at the North Portico. Instead, Trump has asked staff to arrange a sendoff off at Joint Base Andrews with a red carpet, a Color Guard, and a 21-gun-salute.
