Women's rights campaigner Narges Mohammadi's Nobel peace prize win pays tribute to the courage of Iranian women in the face of reprisals and harrassment, the United Nations says. The award "really highlights the courage and determination of the women of Iran and how they are an inspiration to the world", UN human rights office spokeswoman Elizabeth Throssell tells reporters. Speaking just after announcing the winners of this year's Nobel Peace Prize, the Chair of Norway's Nobel Committee, Breit Reiss-Andersen, says "this prize is not addressing President Putin", before adding that his government "is representing an authoritarian government that is suppressing human rights activists." The 2022 Prize's joint winners are: jailed Belarusian activist, Ales Bialiatski, Russian human rights organisation, Memorial, and Ukrainian human organisation, the Center for Civil Liberties.
