Batman, s'activant à arrêter les multiples gangs nés de la dissolution du gang des mutants voit ressurgir un vieil ennemi du passé : le Joker.
Les clans de Shahid Khan et Ramadir Singh continuent de s'affronter dans la région de Wasseypur. Et c'est maintenant au petit fils de Shahid, Faizal de reprendre la tête du clan Khan.
Il y a huit ans, Batman a disparu dans la nuit : lui qui était un héros est alors devenu un fugitif. Mais l'arrivée à Gotham de Bane, terroriste masqué, risque d'arracher Bruce à l'exil qu'il s'est imposé. Pourtant, Batman n'est peut-être plus de taille à affronter Bane...
Sombre période à Gotham City. Tenue en otage par la puissante famille Falcone, la ville est en proie aux crimes et à la corruption. À ce chaos s'ajoute le fait que le mystérieux tueur Holiday s'en prenne à la pègre laissant un vent de terreur souffler sur la ville... ainsi que de nombreux cadavres. Batman, le capitaine James Gordon et le procureur Harvey Dent entament une réelle course contre la montre pour éviter tout prochain événement malheureux.
Checkford a bien changé depuis l'arrivée des célèbres May Ray : les touristes affluent, l'immobilier flambe... A la Bread Factory, Dorothea et Greta travaillent sur l'adaptation d'Hécube d'Euripide. Mais le vrai spectacle se situe peut-être à l'extérieur. Face à toutes ces transformations dans la ville, la Bread Factory est toujours menacé.
