General Motors gained as much as 8.9% to a record high on Tuesday. The gain comes on news that its autonomous vehicle subsidiary, Cruise, is receiving a large investment from Microsoft. Microsoft joins a number of companies in a $2 billion funding round for Cruise. Tuesday's price is a record-high for GM since it emerged from bankruptcy at the end of the Great Recession. The partnership will accelerate the commercialization of self-driving vehicles. It brings together the two companies' software and hardware engineering expertise, cloud computing capabilities, and manufacturing knowledge.
Russian arms maker Kalashnikov unveiled a prototype of an electric car CV-1. The retro look of the pale blue prototype, dubbed the CV-1, was inspired by a rare 1970s model, the "Izh-Kombi".
This is the Arcfox Lite, a two-seater premium electric vehicle aimed at a young, urban audience. Produced by BAIC BJEV, the electric vehicle unit of the Beijing Automotive group, the Arcfox Lite was unveiled at the Guangzhou Auto Show last weekend. The trendy two-seater electric car comes with two LED screens on the exterior of the vehicle. Drivers can write their own messages on the LED panels through emojis, Chinese or English characters in order to communicate their feelings to to the world. It will cost between $14,000 and $16,000.
