Mercedes-Benz rolled out its new A-Class to the 2018 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and showed off its new Mercedes-Benz User Experience, or MBUX, smart multimedia system. The MBUX combines a futuristic display, Optical Finger Navigation, and voice controls with a high-level computing package, including 8GB of RAM, two different Nvidia graphics cards, and an AI recommendation system.
Czech carmaker Skoda is betting big on China. They unveiled an electric concept car called the Vision E, through which they hope to take their place in the world's largest auto market. Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier's presence at the unveiling underscores the importance of the market to the company. Skoda's new Vision E electric concept car was unveiled at the 2017 International Automobile & Manufacturing Technology Exhibition, also known as Auto Shanghai Expo on Tuesday. The four-seat crossover is based on VW Group’s MEB platform. Vision E has two electric motors delivering a combined 225kW of power. Designed in the Czech Republic, the Vision E is fuelled by liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery cells, and boasts a potential driving range of 310 miles. China's automotive industry has been the largest in the world since 2008. Chinese automakers produce more cars than the US and Japanese markets combined. In 2014, China produced over a quarter of the world's cars.
The coronavirus pandemic has made a fundamental change in the way Americans take vacations--at least for the time being. According to Business Insider, vacationers nervous about flying are taking to the road and are staying closer to home. The usual distance is about 100 miles away. They're also booking the same place multiple times, travelling just so they can work remotely from somewhere else as a change of pace. Roadtrippers are having a significant impact on the economy. There's been an uptick in retail sales for auto parts and sporting goods. Also, older millennials and Gen Xers entering the market for the first time, rather than retirees, are making up the bulk of the unprecedented demand for RVs.
