Lexus RZ with DIRECT4 Tech Animation - Information

Description

Maximum comfort and maximum driving pleasure: With the intelligent DIRECT4 all-wheel drive, the Lexus RZ sets new standards. The technology automatically adjusts the torque between the front and rear axles to the road conditions within milliseconds. The braking force on all four wheels reacts to the road grip and thus also improves the energy efficiency of the electric car.The premium brand found inspiration in nature - and not just for the vehicle design: the cheetah, as the fastest animal in the world, made a lasting impression on chief engineer Takashi Watanabe. When hunting, the big cat sprints at lightning speed and its body moves in all possible directions, while the head remains stable and the gaze unwavering.Such properties are secured in the Lexus RZ by the DIRECT4 all-wheel drive: It gives the model exceptionally good stability and tilt control. The vehicle leans backwards less when accelerating and forwards less when braking. The result: fewer head movements by the occupants. The driver enjoys a more stable view, the comfort for all passengers - especially in the rear - increases. In addition to better control, reduced body jerking and therefore an overall smoother ride, DIRECT4 offers other benefits such as powerful and smooth acceleration, excellent traction under acceleration and on slippery surfaces, better cornering stability and reassuringly confident deceleration. The variable torque distribution also ensures a precise, linear and natural response to any input from the driver. All of these attributes reinforce the RZ's core driving characteristics, which are also the cornerstones of the Lexus Driving Signature: confidence, control and comfort.DIRECT4 continuously ensures an optimal balance of the drive forces between the front and rear axles. Each axis is controlled independently. Sensors constantly send information about wheel speed, longitudinal inclination and steering angle to the control unit. To maximize traction and grip, DIRECT4 reacts at lightning speed: the torque distribution between the front and rear axles can be adjusted within milliseconds - faster than with any mechanical system.

  • New Lexus RZ 450e Direct4 tech animation

Lexus is introducing new systems that optimise the dynamic potential of electrified powertrains. DIRECT4, featured in the new RX 500h and RZ 450e models, is a Lexus-exclusive technology that instantly balances the drive torque delivered to the front and rear axles, giving optimum traction in all driving conditions, linear acceleration and enhanced cornering and vehicle posture. As well as performance and handling it will also contribute to greater ride comfort, particularly for rear seat passengers. One Motion Grip is a steer-by-wire system that dispenses with mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels. Set for introduction on the new RZ 450e, it will transform the driving experience, eliminating the need for hand-over-hand turns of the wheel so manoeuvres are made easier and more precise. Low-speed agility and highway stability are also improved. The system makes automatic micro-corrections when driving over uneven surfaces.

  • Lexus RZ - Crash & Safety Tests - 2023

The Lexus RZ is the luxury brand's first globally available all-electric executive model and the latest vehicle to be tested by Euro NCAP. The Lexus RZ meets Euro NCAP’s expectations for all-around good crash protection for occupants representing a range of ages, heights, and sizes. The car is also equipped with the latest crash avoidance systems and comes with several new active safety innovations. The RZ is the first car that Euro NCAP rewards for Child Presence Detection technology under the latest 2023 rating regime.Crash protection remains the foundation of Euro NCAP’s safety rating. The Lexus RZ, which shares its platform with the earlier tested Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra, performed well in full-scale crash tests and additional occupant protection evaluations, earning top marks in the side barrier test. However, in the full-width rigid barrier test, chest protection was rated as weak for the rear passenger, and, in the side pole test, dummy readings of rib compression indicated a marginal level of protection. More positively, to reduce the risk of occupant-to-occupant injuries in far-side crashes, the car also offers a standard centre airbag. The Lexus RZ is equipped with several onboard sensors that provide the latest legally required advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) functions and impress in autonomous emergency braking track tests simulating critical emergency situations with other road users. New in the vehicle is the child presence detection system, which warns when a child or infant may have been left in the car and is consequently potentially lifesaving in hot weather. The system first issues an in-cabin reminder to check for a child when exiting the car and later switches on the vehicle hazard lights if it is likely that a child has been left in the vehicle. Finally, several improvements have been introduced to facilitate post-crash rescue, including an advanced eCall system, a multi-collision brake, and safeguards for passengers in the event of vehicle submergence.
